Korbin Leddy, a member of Grant County 4-H and an eighth-grader at Milbank Middle School, was recognized as a South Dakota 2018 Prudential Spirit of Community Award Distinguished Finalist. He receives an engraved bronze medallion.

Leddy began leading food drives when he was in third grade, and has mobilizied his classmates and fellow 4-H’ers to collect nearly 4,000 food items for the Grant County Food Pantry. Leddy also has harvested more than 600 pounds of fresh produce for the hungry from his family garden, has assisted with packaging food backpacks for students, and packed meals bound for U.S. and international disaster areas.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards represents the United States’ largest youth recognition program based solely on volunteer service. All public and private middle level and high schools, Girl Scout councils, county 4-H organizations, American Red Cross chapters, YMCAs, and affiliates of Points of Light’s HandsOn Network, were eligible to select a student or member for a local award. The local honorees were reviewed by an independent judging panel, which selected the state honorees and finalists. Criteria included personal initiative, effort, impact, and personal growth.
