Weinkauf Places at State Gymnastics Meet

MHS junior Mackenzie Weinkauf placed 15th in the individual competition of the State Class A gymnastics meet in Watertown Saturday, February 10. She scored an 8.950. Milbank earned a fifth place finish in the team competition Friday, February 9.

All three seniors on the team sustained injuries this season. Emily Dornbusch suffered an injury early in the season to end her career. Jodi DeVaal and Christina Lusk sustained injuries, but returned to compete at the state meet.

“Our goal this season was a third place finish at the state meet,” said Fraasch. “After all three seniors were not able to compete, we had to rely on the underclassmen to pull some big scores. They worked hard, improving all season to replace the missing scores, and did a great job in making their own mark. We were finally able to get a few of the seniors back on an event or two just to lose a gymnast, Madison Mathews, to illness for the state meet. Although we did not make the goal of third place, we competed strong with multiple personal best scores to finish out our team season.”
