Mary Anderson

Mary Louise Anderson, age 79, of Milbank, SD, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2018, at St. Williams Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Milbank. Rev. Nathan Zastrow will officiate, and burial will take place at Clinton Cemetery, Clinton, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home and will continue at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Casket bearers will be: Ryan Anderson, Jordan Anderson, Neal Erickson, Jamie Boonstra, Cody Boonstra, Michael Anderson, Douglas Anderson, and Kelly Erickson.

Honorary bearers will be: Amber Boonstra Stanger, Cassy Boonstra Dufty, Nicole Erickson, Kylie Anderson Cabasal, Rochelle Anderson, Audrey Anderson Erickson, Tanya Anderson, Eldonna Anderson Boonstra, and Steve Boonstra.

Mary was born on June 10, 1938, on a farm south of Chokio, MN, to Elmer and Edith Anderson.

She was married to Norman Roger Anderson on June 25, 1955, at a Lutheran Church in Morris, MN. Together they farmed, starting out in rural Chokio until they moved to rural Clinton in 1965 where they remained until moving to Milbank, SD, in October 2010. They spent their winters in Texas from 1980 until Mary became ill and became a resident at St. Williams Care Center, Milbank, SD, in February 2015.

Mary worked hard with Norman on their farm and enjoyed dancing with Norman and several of their friends both in Minnesota and Texas. She had a large garden every year and made the best dill pickles. She was a great cook and made homemade bread every week when the children were at home. Mary was very creative and crafty, and she loved to show people how to do paper embroidery and decorative paper piecing. They were made into greeting card covers that many would later frame, enjoy and remember her by. Mary always signed and dated all of her work.

Mary is survived by her husband, Norman; children: Michael (Tanya) Anderson of Chaska, MN; Eldonna (Steve) Boonstra of Raymond, MN; Douglas Anderson of Litchfield, MN; and Audrey (Kelly) Erickson of Starbuck, MN; siblings: Irene Carlson of Montrose, CA; Ken (Beth) Anderson of Wayzata, MN; and Gene (Sharon) Anderson of Appleton, MN; sisters-in-law, Joyce Gillespie of Alexandria, MN; Jane Gillespie of Clinton, MN; Barb Anderson of Ortonville, MN; Wilma Anderson of Clinton, MN; Susan Wohlers of Graceville, MN; and Bonnie (Tommy) Connelly of Sparta, KY; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by seven infant siblings; her parents; parents-in-law: Harry and Emmy Anderson; brother and sister-in-law: Sylvester and Phyllis Anderson; brother-in-law, Bill Carlson; sister, Lillian Tubbs; brother, Roger Anderson; brothers-in-law: Delhart Anderson, DeWillis Anderson, Jerry Anderson, Richard Anderson, Larry Anderson, Gordon Gillespie and Benny Wohlers; and sisters-in-law: Elvira Anderson and Connie Kay Anderson.
