The Milbank Lady Bulldogs ended their season with a 59-41 loss to Redfield-Doland in the Region 1A semi-finals. The game was held on the Pheasants’ home court on Thursday, February 22.

“Redfield’s size and athleticism really caused us issues with our offense,” stated Milbank Lady Bulldogs Head Coach Brian Pauli. “We really struggled to find open shots and when we did, we didn’t make them. We knew going into the game their inside game was their strength. We didn’t have an answer for it all game. I appreciate the girls’ effort this season.”

Milbank struggled from the start and scored just four points in the first quarter, trailing 12-4. The troubles continued in the second quarter. The Lady Bulldogs remained behind at 29-11 at the midway mark. In the second half, Milbank outscored Redfield-Doland, but continued to trail 43-27 heading into the final stanza. In the fourth quarter, they could not overcome the early deficit and fell to the Pheasants.

Gabbi Cummins and Molly Rick led the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points each. Cummins grabbed four rebounds and had one assist and three steals. Rick snared six boards, had two assists, four steals, and one blocked shot. Taylor Thue tallied nine points, one rebound, and one steal. Jaecy Engebretson added five points, one rebound, and one assist. Also adding to the totals for Milbank were: Makayla Johnson, three points and six rebounds; Shea Hooth, two points, two steals, and one rebound; LaChasity Finley, two points; Lindsey Mertens, one rebound; Sophia Seffrood, one steal; and Kylie Kasuske, one assist.

Milbank made 27 percent from the field -13 of 49 attempts. The Lady Bulldogs ended the game with 22 rebounds, five assists, 13 steals, and one blocked shot. They committed 12 turnovers.

Redfield-Doland went 19-of-37 from the field for 51 percent shooting. The Pheasants secured the victory with 41 rebounds, six assists, eight steals,and three blocked shots. They committed 18 turnovers. Redfield-Doland advances to the Round of 16.
