The Milbank High School gymnastics team wrapped up the 2017-2018 season with an awards dinner. The potluck was held Monday, February 26, at the high school.
Three seniors completed their high school careers. Jodi DeVaal was given a Senior Award and also tied for a team high score on vault with a 8.70. Emily Dornbusch and Christina Lusk also received a Senior Award.
Mackenzie Weinkauf was named the Most Valuable Gymnast by scoring 411.95 points this season. She was the Most Valuable Gymnast on vault with 110.775 points and on floor with 11.325 points. In addition, she had the highest team scores in all-around (32.70), vault (8.70), and floor (8.95) this year. She was also named the Most Dedicated Gymnast.
Jalyn Engel received the Coaches’ Award. Maddie Gustafson was named the Most Improved Gymnast on the team, and Joci McFarland was named Rookie of the Year.
Greta Snaza was selected as the Most Valuable Gymnast on bars with 94.65 points and she had the highest bar score on the team with a 7.95. Dani Yamaura won the Most Valuable Gymnast on the balance beam by tallying 102.075 points this year. She also had the highest score of the team on beam with a 8.775, and was named the Hardest Worker.
Varsity gymnasts receiving their Major M were: Jodi DeVaal, Emily Dornbusch, Christina Lusk, Mya Johanson, Mackenzie Weinkauf, Maddie Gustafson, Tori Hooth, Greta Snaza, Madison Mathews, Joci McFarland, and Dani Yamaura.
Gymnasts who earned a Minor M certificate this season were: Mackenzie Stengner, Hannah Streich, Kayla Bury, Jalyn Engel, Lindsey Hartman, Sierra Barse, Laney Forrette, and Rylie Overby. Other seventh and eighth grade gymnasts in the program were: Lilly Hartman, Lexi Hynnek, Ashlyn O’Farrell, Kennedy Stengner, and Marisa Hynnek.
