Students of St. Lawrence School in Milbank raised $17,150 – five dollars at a time. The students sold raffle tickets for five dollars each during the 2018 Catholic Schools Raffle, a fundraising program sponsored by Catholic United Financial. St. Lawrence participated along with 83 other schools in Minnesota and the Dakotas.

Harald Borrmann, president of Catholic United Financial, says, “Catholic United Financial has had a strong commitment to education since our founding 140 years ago. This year, our Catholic Schools Raffle is again one of the largest fundraisers for Catholic education in the upper Midwest. Since we started this Raffle in 2009, over $7 million has been raised for participating schools. We are incredibly proud that 100 percent of the total has gone directly to students, parents, faculty, and administrators who have helped make this program such an unqualified success.”

The Raffle officially concluded on March 7, and the prize drawing ceremony was streamed live on the Catholic United Financial website. Prizes valued at over $40,000 included a 2018 Chevy Trax SUV, vacation and travel packages, iPads, and Smart TVs. Winners from the Milbank area were Louise Schmidt, who won an iPad, and Kay Groethe who won a Cebela’s gift card.

Catholic United also rewarded the top St. Lawrence classroom – Mrs. Rausch’s sixth-graders- with a pizza party.

The top-selling student at St. Lawrence- Stella Wendland- won a self-propelled WowWee robot.

All the money raised enhances school programs and facilities, including funding field trips, building playgrounds, supplementing tuition costs and providing education technology. Video, photos, and a list of prizewinners are available at: www.catholicunitedfinancial.org/raffle.
