A total of 366 people submitted guesses to win the Kiwanis Car on Ice contest. Matt and Heidi Wellnitz won the top prize of $500 with their guess of March 29, at 1:15 p.m. The car fell through the ice on March 29, at 1:34 p.m.

Casey Wittrock guessed 1:00 p.m. and Kathleen Holscher selected 3:15 p.m. They both won $50. Five other people submitted guesses for the correct date.

Although the vehicle broke through the ice on March 29, it wasn’t pulled from the pond until April 27. A spring storm caused the pond to freeze again and prevented its recovery.

Proceeds from the contest benefit the Grant County Food Pantry and are earmarked for diapers. Al Mathiason donates the placing and retrieval of the car.
