Gerald Lee Bowers, age 79, of Twin Brooks, SD, died June 2, 2018, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 23, at 2:00 p.m. at Valley Baptist Church in Milbank. Visitation will be held one hour before services on Saturday. Burial will take place at Milbank City Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.

Gerald Lee Bowers was born on April 10, 1939, in Ortonville, MN. He was the son of George and Thelma (Keeney) Bowers. His family farmed in Kilborn Township, Grant County, South Dakota. He attended country school at Kilborn #2 from 1945-1953 and graduated from Corona High School in 1957. After graduating, Gerald spent 6 years in the 740th National Guard in Milbank, being called to active duty for 1 year in 1961, during the Berlin Crisis.

On September 28, 1963, Gerald was united in marriage with Jacqueline Jesser in Ortonville, MN. Gerald was a farmer for all his life and farmed in Kilborn Township living and working for 34 years on his farm in Twin Brooks, SD. Earlier in life, he spent time working in Fort Carson, CO from the fall of 1961 to the summer of 1962.

Gerald loved to work and was willing to help anyone who needed it. He played softball in his younger years but mostly loved spending time with his family and friends. Gerald was a member of the American Legion and served as an usher and on various boards and teams for the Valley Baptist Church.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Jackie; his children: Gary Bowers, Ginger Seehafer of Milbank, and Gail Bowers of Milbank; 5 grandchildren: Brent, Taylor, Caleb, Haeley, and Sawyer; and many other family members and friends.

Preceding Gerald in death are his parents; sisters: Evelyn and Alice; brother, Ken; and a brother in infancy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Avera at Home Hospice Care.
