Gerald Boerger, age 82, of Milbank, died July 3, 2018, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 11, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Father Gary DeRouchey will officiate and burial will be in the Milbank Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church beginning at 5 p.m. followed by a prayer vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday morning, one hour prior to the Mass. The urn bearer will be Luke Boerger. Honorary bearers will be his grandchildren: April Schmidt, Sarah Charbonneau, Naoko Karimata, Dustin Boerger, Nick Boerger, Spencer Boerger, Kayla Jenner, Hailey Jenner, Richie Lewno, Jessica LeBrun, and Renata Fiorese. Music will be provided by Nancy Johnson, organist and the St. Lawrence Funeral Choir.

Gerald Elton Boerger was born on April 30, 1936, in Milbank, SD. He was the son of Elton and Fleeta (Unzicker) Boerger. He attended rural school and graduated from Milbank High School. He attended three years of technical training at Morris Ag. Jerry was united in marriage with Kathleen Binsfeld on November 14, 1959, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Big Stone City. Jerry served in the Army National Guard for six years.

Jerry and Kathy were blessed with four children: Lisa, Luke, Brenda, and Jeanine. Jerry farmed for many years. He worked for Liebe Farms and was a truck driver for Berkner Excavating & Gravel.

Jerry was a faithful member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. He served on the Board of Directors for Select Sires. Jerry loved to fish with his buddies and especially liked taking his grandchildren fishing. He enjoyed hunting in his earlier years. He looked forward to each fall and loved the harvest season. He was proud of his vegetable and flower gardens. Most importantly, Jerry loved his family and was extremely proud of them. He loved giving the grandchildren rides on his Polaris Ranger. Any family time that was spent together was treasured.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kathy of Milbank, SD; four children: Lisa (Scott) Torness of Big Stone City, SD; Luke (Wendy) Boerger of Milbank, SD; Brenda (Thad) Jenner of Tea, SD; and Jeanine (Scott) Lewno of Milbank, SD; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one sister, Joan (LaVerne) Berkner of Milton, WI; brother-in-law, Donny Quade of Twin Brooks, SD; and sister-in-law, Pat Boerger of Milbank, SD. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: James, Nick, and Steven; one sister, Karen Quade.
