The Milbank Bulldogs traveled over two hours on Friday, September 7, to take on the Orioles of Lennox. Lennox won the game by one touchdown.
The Bulldogs started strong, when quarterback Kaden Krause found Max McCulloch for a touchdown. Milbank held a six to nothing lead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter, however, was all Lennox. The Orioles added 22 points to their side of the scoreboard, and at halftime Lennox was on top with the score 6-22.

The Dawgs roared back after halftime to add another 8 points to their score. Quarterback Krause ran into the end zone for a touchdown and then connected with McCulloch for the two point conversion. By the end of the third quarter, both crowds were on their feet as the score tightened to 15-22.
In the fourth quarter, Krause and McCulloch again connected for a 13-yard touchdown, and Carlos Ramirez kicked for the extra point. The Orioles weren’t done singing, though, and answered with a touchdown. Lennox held on to win the game with the final score of 21-29.

Senior Jacob Karges led the Bulldogs with nine tackles and one interception. Junior Brodie Holtquist made eight tackles and senior Jake Sandvig had seven.

Coach Adolph Shepardson said, “Lennox has a very good quarterback and he hurt us with the deep ball. We played very good run defense; we just need to clean up our coverage on the back half. Offensively, we are close to being a very good unit- we just need to take better care of the football and be more consistent up front. We need to start winning these close games down the stretch if we want to make the playoffs.”

The Bulldogs play their 2018 Homecoming game against the Roncalli Cavaliers this Friday. Kick off is at 7 p.m. Shepardson says, “They (Roncalli) play good defense and try to spread you out on offense. It should be a great match-up, and we hope to have a good week of practice and come out on top.”
