MHS Senior Conner VanVooren tied for 20th place at the South Dakota State Golf Tournament in Del Rapids on October 1 and 2. VanVooren carded a 176. “Conditions were tough with cold temperatures and extremely fast greens. Tuesday was particularly difficult because of the winds. I witnessed many three putts from our competition,” stated Coach Mark Keeton.

Also returning home with medals, were Jake Trevett, who tied for 71st with a score of 202, and Eli Fischer who tied for 82nd with his tally of 208. “Jake and Eli battled both days and were able to gain valuable state tournament experience for next year. Once again, our region did very well as we took four out of the top six team spots,” added Keeton.

How did VanVooren feel about his last appearance at a high school golf meet? He said, “My goal this year was to place at State. I am especially grateful for Eli for picking me up in practice when I was having a bad day. At State, the first day I shot 83 which put me in a good position to place. On the second day, the wheels seem to fall off right away, but I eventually got it going to finish in 20th.
