An influenza vaccination clinic for school-age children will be held in the lobby of the Milbank High School on Tuesday, October 23 from 2:30 to 6:00 p.m. Vaccine will be available for children 6 months through 18 years of age. Parental consent is required for anyone under the age of 18.

Jennifer Meyer, community health nurse said, “Vaccinating children helps protect them from serious influenza illness and complications, as well as decreases the spread of influenza in the community as children are often the biggest spreaders of influenza to adults and other children.”

To move quickly through the flu clinic, consent forms may be obtained and completed prior to arriving. Forms can be picked up at Milbank High School as well as the Community Health Services Office at 210 E 5th Ave, Milbank.

The Department of Health now bills insurance for influenza vaccine.

• Vaccine provided to children covered by Medicaid or private insurance will be billed to those insurances.
• If your child has coverage, a copy of the Medicaid or insurance card must be attached to the consent form or the card must be brought to the clinic.
• Children not covered by Medicaid or private insurance qualify for vaccination through a federal vaccine program.

If you have questions about the vaccine or the scheduled clinic, please contact the South Dakota Department of Health Community Health Services Office in Grant County at 605-432-4596.

Jessica Anderson, community health office secretary; and Jennifer Meyer, community health nurse.
