James “Jim” Anderson, age 76, of Labolt, SD, died on November 23, 2018, at the Milbank Area Hospital – Avera Health as a result of injuries sustained in a farming accident. Services will be conducted by Revered Dr. DeVern Schwenn and Pastor Thom Bowsher on Tuesday, November 27, at 10:30 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home of Milbank, with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.

The son of Wilford and Ramona (Chavet) Anderson, James was born in Milbank on November 29, 1941. Jim received his elementary education in Vernon #6 Country School and then attended Milbank Schools, graduating with the MHS class of 1959. Following one year at SDSU, he returned to join his father in farming. Later, he was happy to welcome his eldest son, Eric, to the operation.

On July 11, 1962, Jim was united in marriage with Nancy Feind. After 11 years on the home farm, the couple moved to a farm by LaBolt where the couple resided at the time of his death. His occupation was farming, his hobby was farming, and his favorite leisure time activity was resting on Sunday for the next six days of farming. Dubbed “Mr. Fix It” by his mother, Jim could fix almost anything: often with not much more than determination, patience, and something from his vast unorganized shed where he stored “things he might need someday.” One thing that would get him off the farm was to attend the events in which his children and grandchildren participated.

Jim was a longtime, faithful member of Central UMC where he had taught Sunday school, worked with the youth, served on several committees, and ushered for many years. He sang in the church choir, in quartets, and for many funerals over the years. Jim served on the Whetstone Valley Electric board of directors for several terms.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Nancy of LaBolt, SD; four children: Renae (Doug) Wollschlager of Revillo, SD; Eric (Anita) Anderson of Milbank, SD; Guy Anderson of Parker, SD; Jonathan Anderson of Gluek, MN; 12 grandchildren: Ryan (Jenn) Wollschlager of Revillo, SD; Amber (TJ) Thomas of Des Moines, IA; Rachel Wollschlager of Des Moines, IA; Abby Wollschlager of Vermillion, SD; Tyler (Dayna) Anderson of Willmar, MN; Josh (Emily) Anderson of Tea, SD; Leah (Josh) Sween of Kindred, ND; Jake Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD; Zack Anderson of Vermillion, SD; Lucy Anderson of Parker, SD; Mackenzie Anderson of Minneapolis, MN; and Ian Anderson of Minneapolis, MN; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers: Neil (Pat) Anderson of Rochester, MN; and Dr. John (Judy) Anderson of Wayzata, MN.
