Lois “Darlene” (Hjellming) Davis was born on August 14, 1932, near Summit, SD, to Alfred and Aldora (Larson) Hjellming. She attended school in Summit and graduated high school in 1951. On May 25, 1951, Darlene was united in marriage with Darold Davis.

Darlene and Darold farmed together in Lake Township of Roberts County, SD: farming land, raising pigs, and milking cows. Darlene was an owner/operator of the Eastside Summit Café for four years. She also worked at the canning factory in Big Stone City, sewed quilts at Dakotah, and worked as a Nurse’s Aide at the Wilmot and Browns Valley nursing homes for many years.

She enjoyed painting, wallpapering, cooking, baking, gardening, dancing, playing cards, watching the Minnesota Twins, and most of all, being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Darlene dearly loved her grandchildren and with them enjoyed playing, baking, playing cards, cuddling, and spoiling each one of them! Darlene was also an active member of the Wilmot Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women’s Group, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered her time at church teaching Sunday School and serving as a youth group leader.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: LeRoy (Julie) Davis of Corvallis, OR; Mike (Penny) Davis of Wilmot, SD; Darwin Davis of Huron, SD; and Janell (Tim) Reyelts of Wilmot, SD; grandchildren: April (Jordan) Anderson, Alex (Morgan) Reyelts, Alyssa Reyelts, Colin Davis, Carson Davis, Matthew Davis, Aaron Davis, Jill Davis, Traci Carlson, Rob Brown, and Kyleen Brown; great-grandchildren: Layla, Luke, and Jayln Anderson, and Elliott Reyelts; brother-in-law, Stan Wood; sister-in-law, Jean Hjellming; along with many nieces and nephews.
