Justin Downes has been selected as the new superintendent to lead the Milbank School District. Downes is currently the superintendent of the Arlington School District. The Milbank School District Board of Education announced Downes’ verbal acceptance at a special meeting of the board on Monday, April 15. Downes replaces Tim Graf who resigned March 13 to take the superintendent position at the Harrisburg School District.
Downes attended Northern State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics education in 2007. He holds masters degrees in health and physical education and administration degrees for K- 12. He also received an educational specialist degree for superintendent from the University of South Dakota in 2016.
Downes was hired as the junior high and high school principal and athletic director at the Corsica-Stickney School District in 2015. He has been the superintendent in Arlington since 2016. Earlier in his career, Downes served as a math instructor, bus driver, head girls basketball coach, assistant football, coach, junior high basketball coach, and assistant golf coach.
