The Grant County Public Library and the South Dakota State Library are hosting Scan Day on April 25 at the library in Milbank. Digitization staff members from the South Dakota State Library will provide scanning and photography equipment to digitize patrons photographs, documents, and other records. The service is free! It’s part of Preservation Week which is celebrated from April 21 through April 27. Call 605.432.6543 to reserve your time slot.

State Librarian, Daria Bossman, said, “This is one way the state library can partner with local libraries to promote preservation of local history and assist citizens in collecting and preserving history digitally.” According to the library, it seeks “to engage residents in building local and state history by bringing items including personal records, documents and photographs to be digitized. The items then have the potential to be shared with the local library, museum, or the South Dakota State Archives.”

Scan Day is being brought to the Grant County Public Library courtesy of the State Library and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. State library staff time, training, and scanning equipment are provided by federal LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) grant funds.
