The Grant County FSA reminds eligible farmers the deadline to request Marketing Assistance Loans (MALs) is May 31, 2019. MALs, which provide interim financing on production, aid cash flow while removing the need to sell commodities immediately following harvest when market prices are typically low. The final date to request 2018 MALs for feed grains such as corn, dry peas, lentils, mustard seed, safflower seed, chickpeas, sunflowers, and soybeans is May 31. MALs mature in nine months.

Producers can choose to repay the MAL at principal and interest, repay the loan at less than principal plus interest at the posted county price (PCP), repay with commodity certificates, or deliver the grain to CCC in settlement of the loan. When the loan is repaid at the PCP, the difference between the loan rate (principal) and PCP is called a marketing loan gain (MLG).
