The annual 4th of July fireworks display begins at dusk at Lake Farley Park in Milbank. Have a family? Come early and stay late! The Milbank Area Chamber of a Commerce has created a star-studded list of family friendly activities.

Festivities begin with the ever-popular kids fishing tournament. Registration starts at 5:30 p.m. for toddlers through kids age 16. (Younger children must be supervised.) The fishing contest is free. No fishing gear? No worries. All bait is provided. Bring your own pole or a pole will also be provided. Kids fish from 6-7:30 p.m.. The top three winners in the categories of largest fish, most fish, and youngest fisherman take home a prize. The kids fishing tournament is sponsored by the Whetstone Valley Sportsmens Club.

Also at 6 p.m., the watermelon feed, sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police, will keep you cool. Or check out concessions from Guadalupe’s, Tommy’s Popcorn, and the United Pride FOK cancer walk team. Play or watch Cornhole. Boards will be set up. The annual Great Western coin dig for kids will also take place in the park.

What you won’t see this year is volunteers with donation buckets. To offset some of the costs of the Independence Day party, the Chamber is selling raffle tickets up to the 4th of July celebration. Winners will be announced at 8 p.m.

Fireworks begin at dusk to conclude the celebration.
