The Bulldogs boys’ cross country team bagged first place at the Pheasant Invitational in Redfield on September 5. Milbank won the meet with a team score of 17. Webster took second with 31 points and Timber Lake was third also with 31 points.

Head coach Eric Townsend said, “Placing in the top three teams at this meet is tough because of the quality and number of teams attending. It was nice to see many of the NEC and Region 1A schools. All five of our boys ran pretty well and were faster than a year ago at the same meet.“

In the varsity 5,000-meter run, Nick Batchelor came in first with a time of 16:25.82. Zippy Bock placed eighth and Brady Femling was 10th. James Batchelor finished in 33rd place and Alex Farrell was close behind in 34th place.

The girls’ team snared third-place with 33 points. “They are in a similar position as last season,” Coach Townsend said. “Placing in the top 20 individually in this varsity meet is difficult with the number of teams and level of competition. The girls have been battling minor injuries that hopefully can be cleared up for this week’s home meet.”

Tyra Berry led the girls with a 10th place finish. Maurina Street took 16th place and Mariah Brown finished 19th. Ellie Neugebauer ended the meet in 30th place and Ashlyn O’Farrell placed 35th. Danica Schulte took 36th; Amaya Street, 48th, and Allison Leddy, 52nd .
