The Milbank boys’ golf team fought tough weather conditions at the Pheasant Invitational in Redfield on Tuesday, September 17. The Bulldogs finished fifth in the team standings with a score of 407.

“I was very pleased with our score on a day when hitting the fairway was made extremely difficult due to the high winds,” said Milbank head coach Mark Keeton. “Fisher Grove has thick tree-lined fairways and for the majority of the field, they were playing from the wrong fairway all day. We bested our team score by 24 strokes.”

Logan Meyer led the Bulldogs with a 95 (48-47). Jake Trevett followed with a 99 (53-46). Logan Fenhaus ended the round with a 106 (55-51), and Eli Fischer was right behind him with a 107 (59-48). Rounding out the team for Milbank were Eric Van Sambeek at 111 (56-55), and Carter Phinney at 148 (79-69).

“The boys are doing much better avoiding the high numbers that hurt their card, but we still need to improve our putting as we were 11 over our target goal,” added Keeton. “It was great to get Eli back as we head into the last week of competition before Regions.”

Sisseton won the meet with a score of 354. Sioux Valley was second with a 358, Aberdeen Roncalli took third with a 362, and Redfield-Doland came in at fourth with a 373. Groton Area and Tiospa Zina did not have complete teams and could not earn a team score.
