Nick Batchelor Remains Unbeaten in Cross Country

MHS cross country runner, Nick Batchelor, remains unbeaten this season. Batchelor, a sophomore, claimed the top spot in the 5000-meter run at the Ortonville Invitational on September 23. Both Milbank teams captured second place.

“The Ortonville meet was a great one for us,” stated Bulldog Head Coach Eric Townsend. “The weather was a little warmer than expected, but the runners ran pretty well against some good competition.”

A couple of top runners were missing from the boys’ roster due to injuries and illnesses. “But they still performed well,” Townsend said. The boys earned second place with 59 points. Morris won the meet with 37 points. Other team totals included: Yellow Medicine East, 83; Border West,100; and Ortonville,104.

Nick Batchelor ran very well and was pushed the entire race by the Morris runner,” said Townsend. “Brady (Femling) and James (Batchelor) had great races as well. They cracked the top 10.” Femling finished in sixth place, and J. Batchelor took 10th.

The Lady Bulldogs also finished second with 30 points. Morris was the top team with 25 points, and Border West took third with 115. “The girls had five of the top 10 place winners in the meet,” said Townsend.

Danica Schulte led Milbank with a fourth-place finish. Ellie Neugebauer took sixth, Maurina Street was close behind in seventh, and Maiah Brown came in eighth. Ashlyn O’Farrell rounded out the top 10 in 10th place.

Milbank runners will be back in action on Saturday, September 28. They travel to Minneapolis for the Roy Griak Invitational.
