Joyce Esther (Krause) Kruse was born on April 8, 1940, in Grant County, SD, to Harley and Esther (Aslakson) Krause. Joyce grew up near Albee, SD, and graduated from Revillo High School in 1958. Joyce married Richard Kruse on January 1, 1959; they lived in California for several years before returning to live in the Revillo area. Richard died in 1989, and Joyce continued to live in the Revillo area for most of her life.

Joyce worked as the finance officer for the city of Revillo in the early 70’s, but her true calling was taking care of her family. She was a devoted mother to her children, and the primary caregiver to her parents. She was dedicated to her four children as they were growing up, taking them camping and sewing their clothes. Joyce loved music, and she had a deep faith. She was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Revillo and was active in the church circle. Joyce faithfully attended worship services at Jenkins Living Center after she moved to Watertown. She looked forward to riding along with Rick and hunting pheasants in the Fall.

Joyce is survived by her children: Wanda (Brad) Novy of Revillo, SD; Rick (Tammy) Kruse of Revillo; Lynn Kruse (Doug Pereboom) of Burke, SD; Leann Kruse (Calvin Musch) of Revillo, SD; brothers: Mike Krause of Milbank, SD; Jimmy Krause of Milbank, SD; sisters: Shirley Splinter of Peoria, AZ; Donna Krause of Hayti, SD; grandchildren: Tiffanie Ramirez, Tarah Novy, T’Ana Novy, Taylor Franson, Trinade Novy, Ashley Kruse, Tanner Kruse, Brandon Street, Kristin Brandt, Brittany Street, Tosha Krantz, Stephanie Street, Brooke Street; 20 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; and brothers: Harlyne and DuWayne; and sister Rose Marie.
