Dentists are not known for buying candy, but Dr. Travis and Emily Bjordahl, owners of Bjordahl Dental Care in Milbank, bought 80 pounds of Halloween candy. They didn’t buy it to give to kids; they bought it from the kids.

From November 4 through November 8, the Bjordahls purchased trick-or-treaters’ candy to send to Move America Forward, a non-profit organization in Sacramento, California. According to Dr. Travis, Move Forward America collects candy, snacks, toiletries, and sundries to put in care packages for military men and women stationed in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world.

Dr. Travis said, “Kids received one dollar for each pound of candy they donated – with a maximum of five dollars – and were also entered in a drawing for an electric toothbrush.” Adults were welcome to add to the mountain of candy, but were not included in the buy back program. On Veteran’s Day the candy was boxed and ready for shipment.
