Dorothy Bishop, age 91, of Milbank, SD, died on November 21, 2019, at Avantara Milbank Nursing Home.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, November 26, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass on Tuesday and burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Revillo.

Dorothy Anne (Brandenburger) Bishop was born on January 30, 1928, near Revillo, SD, to Benjamin and Alma (Rehder) Brandenburger. She graduated from Revillo High School in 1946 and earned her Associate of Arts degree in Data Processing in Pueblo, CO.

After high school, Dorothy worked in three cafes in Milbank: Morten’s, J’s, and the Corner Café. She met her first husband and moved to Fort Mead in Sturgis, SD, and worked in the kitchen there for seven years. Dorothy later moved to Colorado and worked at Farmers Insurance as a key punch operator. She later went to work at the Air Force Academy as a key punch then worked at the Federal Civil Service office as a supervisor.

Dorothy moved to Fort Carson and worked as a UNIVAC computer operator. After earning her degree, she transferred back to the Air Force Academy. She was transferred to Omaha, NE, as a System’s Control Officer – keeping inventory on the bases. Her last job was in Denver, CO, at the Lowry Air Force Base as a Finance Control Officer and retired after 30 years of service. Dorothy worked part time in real estate sales in Denver, CO, and worked full time in real estate sales for two to three years after leaving the service.

In June 1994, Dorothy moved to Roswell, NM, with a dear friend of hers. On October 8, 1997, she was united in marriage with Wade Arthur Bishop in Lake Tahoe, CA. Dorothy and Wade made their home in Roswell until his death in 2011. She later moved back to Milbank to be closer to her family in 2011. Dorothy enjoyed sewing (making suits for her brothers), cooking, gardening, reading, and canning.

Dorothy is survived by her step-children: Carolyn (Dave) Ween of Roswell, NM; and Gary Tapley of Roswell, NM; siblings: Edward (Margaret) Brandenburger of Revillo, SD; Allen (Brenda) Brandenburger of Revillo, SD; Florence (LeRoy) Stricherz of Revillo, SD; and LeRoy (Linda) Brandenburger of South Shore, SD; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Wade; three nieces: Melissa Seezs, LaDean Fischer, and Wanita Brandenburger; and sister-in-law, Donna Brandenburger.
