Young Swimmers Tackle New Events During Sioux Falls Meet

MALST swimmers Adison Pauli, Avery Schuneman, and Logan Dexter entered new events during the Sioux Falls Swim Team Meet at the Midco Aquatic Center in Sioux Falls January 24 – 26. They each dropped time in every event and all three won their heat in the 50-meter freestyle event. “It was impressive to see how much each of them has improved their technique and endurance during winter swim team,” stated head coach Jodi Street.

Pauli and Schuneman swam in their first-ever 100-meter individual medley race. Schuneman also swam a state-qualifying time in the 50-meter free and improved her 200-meter free time by over 27 seconds. Pauli shaved over 19 seconds off her 200-meter freestyle. Dexter swam in his first meet of the winter season and dropped over 16 seconds off his 100-meter backstroke time. “That is great swimming,” Coach Street said.

Team leader, Amaya Street, swam the prelim/finals format in this meet and advanced to the A finals in every event. “This was a big meet for her,” Coach Street added. “We were looking to see cuts in both her 200 and 400 IMs and she achieved that.”

Street dropped 10.95 seconds off her 400 IM and one second off her 200 IM for a third place finish. She also shaved 12 seconds off her 1,000 freestyle. Street swam strong in her 100 and 200-meter breast races and placed third overall in the A final in both events. “Many athletes she competed against will be her top competitors in the state championships,” noted Coach Street, ” so anytime we can race against those girls is great.”
