Three Bulldog grapplers earned wins during the opening day of the 2020 South Dakota State Class A wrestling tournament in Sioux Falls Thursday, February 27. Eli Fischer, Toby Schneck, and Brodie Holtquist each won their first match of the tournament. They all wrestled in the quarterfinal round this afternoon. Fischer secured a place in the semi-finals. Schneck and Holtquist will return to compete in the wrestle-backs Friday morning.

Fischer defeated Brandon Otte of Lennox with a 14-4 major decision in the first round. He then won his quarterfinal match with a 12-2 major decision over Thomas McCoy of Belle Fourche. Fischer advances to the semi-finals on Friday, February 28, at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Schneck won by fall against Aaron Foote of West Central in 5:34. Due to an ankle injury, he then lost by injury default in his quarterfinal match to the No. 1 seed Damion Schunke of Brandon Valley, Toby will return Friday in the wrestle-back round.

Holtquist also won by fall in his first match against Clayton Smith of Sturgis in a time of 2:56. He then suffered a 7-1 loss to Regan Bollweg of Pierre in the quarterfinals. He will continue in the wrestle-backs on Friday.

In other first round action: Barrett Schneck lost by fall to No. 1 seed Ty Althoff of Watertown in 3:56. Brady Femling lost by fall to Jaxson Waugh of Watertown in 4:19. Leyton Raffety lost by fall to No. 1 seed Eli Kadoun of Sioux Falls Roosevelt in 3:54. Dillon Schneck lost by fall to No. 2 seed Colby Mennis of Madison, in :30. All four of those Bulldogs will compete in the first round of wrestle-backs at 9 a.m. Friday, February 28.
