Elijah Fraasch, MHS senior and member of the Watertown Area Swim Club, attained sectional-qualifying times in the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle events during the 2020 South Dakota State Swimming Championships in Watertown held February 27 through March 1. His times earned him a spot in the SPEEDO Sectionals at the 2020 Central Zone Section 1 Spring Championships in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, to be held March 12 – 15.

At the SPEEDO Sectionals, he will swim those two events and the 400-meter and 800-meter freestyle relays with teammates Burke Lauseng, Austin Boettcher, and Max Kuecker.

“Elijah has been swimming competitively for 13 years,” says his mother Amber Fraasch. “He spent the first 11 years as a seasonal swimmer for the Milbank Area Lions Swim Team and joined the Watertown Club after deciding to swim year round in 2018.”

Elijah finished his senior short-course state meet with five personal-best times and top-eight finishes in all seven individual and five relay events. He was the state runner-up in the 50-meter freestyle. His 200-meter and 400-meter freestyle relay teams were also state runners-up.

50- meter freestyle – Second place
200-meter freestyle relay – Second place
400-meter freestyle relay – Second place
100-meter freestyle – Third place
200-meter medley relay – Third place
200-meter butterfly – Fourth place
800-meter freestyle relay – Fourth place
100-meter butterfly – Fifth place
100-meter individual medley – Fifth place
100-meter backstroke – Fifth place
400-meter medley relay – Sixth place
200-meter freestyle – Eighth place
