The Milbank City Council held an emergency meeting Tuesday, 3/24, to take further action to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. A resolution was presented to the Council and passed with a unanimous vote in favor of passing Resolution 3-24-20. The resolution contains a directive to close all the public areas of restaurants and bars within the City of Milbank beginning at 11:59pm, Tuesday, March 24, 2020. The establishments are encouraged to continue to provide curbside pickup as well as delivery, if it is possible for them.

While some of our local establishments have worked hard to maintain the recommended social distancing, we realize that it very difficult for all of them to regulate this and the aforementioned action is required to protect the citizens of our community.

The City will continue to monitor all activities within the community to assure all CDC and State guidelines are being followed to prevent the spread of COVID -19. It is our hope that all of our residents will adhere to the guidelines, thus not requiring any further action by the Mayor and Council.
All that I can tell the citizens at this time is to be very mindful of their own actions. The Council and I had hoped as late as yesterday not to have to implement any special directives, however in the last 24 hours the more information we receive the more prudent it becomes that action is required.

We are again asking all residents to:

Practice social distancing. If you do not need to go out, then don’t.

No gathering in groups of more than 10. 10 is the current recommendation, if cases begin to mount expect that number to be lowered. Again, if you do not need to, don’t.

Watch out for our elderly and vulnerable population. Make sure they have adequate supplies and offer to help as much as is possible.

Stay at home if you are sick. If you are sick and need to visit a healthcare facility, you must call ahead, so they can be prepared to assist you. We must protect our healthcare system.

The City office has also received calls concerning daycares. We are asking everyone to be understanding and patient while we gather more information on how to deal with this.

Thank you.
