A total of 181 hours of reading was logged by 23 children during 2020 Summer Reading at the Big Stone City Branch Library. Children earned prizes by reading and doing activity pages as well as art projects and sending pictures of their finished work to the library by email or by putting their finished work into the library drop box.

For every 15 minutes of reading the children did at home, the parents made note and all reading time was turned into the Librarian, Janelle Kelly, at the end of the 4 weeks.
Children and their parent visited the library on the first and last day of the program in small groups due to the Covid-19 virus. Imagine your story was the theme with dragons, princes, princesses and gnomes.
On both days the children were read to by the librarian and played games, and drew with colored chalk on the  sidewalk in front of the library. On the last day, they were able to make a fairy garden to take home.
The program concluded on July 15. Top readers were Lauren Lester, Braeden Karels, Josie Bruchette, Sophia Schmidt, Owen Karels, and Brynlee Taylor. All children were awarded prizes from the treasure chest. Some readers also received a book, a kite, or a T-shirt.

The Big Stone City Branch Library is one of three branch libraries in the Grant County Library system. The library is open by appointment on Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Visit the library at the southwest corner of the BSC Community Center at 400 Washington Street in Big Stone City.
