The Milbank Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual meeting September 28. They adopted the theme Do Great Things for the coming year.

Three awards were given to chamber businesses for their dedication and commitment. Valley Office Products was named the Small Business of the Year. Valley Queen Cheese was named the Corporate Business of the Year, and All About Travel received the Rookie Business of the Year award.

Milbank Chamber directors, Laura Kelly and Chelcie Eischens, reported 29 new businesses joined the Chamber this past year. The directors also recounted the year’s events and outlined activities that will continue or be improved upon. “Treat Street, the holiday promotion, the Winter Wonderland Festival, photos with Santa, the Farm and Home Show, and the Farmers Market and Downtown Tuesdays were all a huge success and will continue,” said Kelly. Kelly also discussed tweaking the Summer Event Series. “We don’t know what those changes will be yet, but our committee will be working hard to make improvements.” Kelly also said she will focus on improving tourism in Milbank this coming year.

Three positions were filled on the board of directors. Alesia Christensen takes over the role of president, and Denice Hooth continues on the board as the past president. Nick Sipe of Midland Publishing/The Valley Shopper, and Stacy Anderson of The Wharf assumed positions vacated by Jeremy Johnson and Abbey Heisinger. Dave Hupke was elected as the new vice president; Dan Sorenson will remain as treasurer. Other board members include: Chely Wellnitz, Cheri Meagher, Sara Snaza, and Jessica Strobl.
