
The Milbank track and field teams traveled to the Huron Invitational on Friday, April 5, for their first outdoor meet of the 2024 season. This year, the Javelin Throw became an official event in Class A, and the Bulldogs wasted no time putting up new school records. Claire Snaza recorded a throw of 77’ 9” to claim the girls school record. Bree Townsend made the honor roll at No. 4 with her throw of 62’ 3”. Emmett Hanson tossed it 121’ 4” to land the new school record for the boys. Mason Allen also cracked the list at No. 6, when he recorded a throw of 86’ 6”.
Hanson also made the MHS all-time varsity honor roll at No. 6, when he finished the 300-Meter Hurdles in 41.75. Sam Rick’s total of 42’ 5.5” in the triple jump earned him a spot on the honor roll at No. 3. Raina Untalan went to No. 7 on the honor roll for her vault of 8’ 0” in the Pole Vault competition.
Eric Townsend, head coach for MIlbank, commented, “This meet is a great one for our teams to attend because it is unlimited, and we get a chance to compete against some AA schools. The weather was a little windier and cooler as the evening came, but overall it was a decent weather day.”
In the boys division at the meet, Milbank’s Medley Relay team composed of Jayden Johnson, Rick, Bryan Meyer, and James Batchelor won first place with a total time of 3:51.02. Hanson took first place in the 300-Meter Hurdles. Graham Lightfield followed in fifth place with his time of 44.83. Rick’s aforementioned triple jump earned him first place at the meet, and Osowski with his total of 36’ 8.5 brought home eighth place. In the 110-Meter Hurdles Hanson took second at 16.16 and Lighfield garnered fourth place at 16.98.
Peyton Brown crossed the finish line at 2:04.41 in the 800-Meter Run to take second place at the invite. Jeter Scoular finished at 2:38.90. In the Pole Vault competition, Johnson came in second with a 13’ 0” vault. Rick took sxith place at 12’ 0”.Bryton Blauert put up a score of 8’ 0”. Max Scoular and Pierce Mathiason participated, but no heights were recorded.
The 3200-Meter Relay team made up of Beckham Berry, Liam Street, Rylan Wendland, and Bennett Graham took third place with their combined total time of 9:59.82. The 800-Meter Relay team made up of Johnson, Rick, Meyer, and Harley Zemlicka captured fourth place with their total time of 1:39.18. In the 1600-Meter Run, Brown was fourth at 4:41.77 and Batchelor was sixth at 4:45.06. M. Scoular finished at 5:40.29. The team of Meyer, Batchelor, Zemlicka, and P. Brown earned fourth place in the Bulldog Relay with their combined total of 3:38.91.
Garrett Weber (12:42), Rashawn Gertsema-Collins (12.83), M. Allen (12.89), Devin Brown (14.19), Sam Wilson (15.63), and Noah Falk (17.55) all ran the 100-Meter Dash. Jaxson Wiese, D Brown, M. Scoular, and Micah Tostenson ran the 400-Meter Relay in 53.11. Weber, Allen, Lance Engebretson, and Gertsema-Collins also ran the 400-Meter Relay. They finished in 48.86. Street ran the 400-Meter Dash in 1:00.58 and Bennett Graham clocked in at 1:05.56. In the 200-Meter Dash, Wiese, (26.18) Tostenson (26.55), Weber (26.56), Allen (26.84), Gertsema-Collins (27.64), Wilson (DNR), and Wiese (26.18) represented MIlbank.
Also in the Javelin Throw competition, Layten Osowski hit 90’ 2”. Jesus Padilla Reamirez notched 74’ 0”. Jeryn Bormann marked 62’ 10” and Noah Falk, 29’ 11”. Zemlicka leaped 5’ 2” in the High Jump. Moises Luna Sanchez recorded 32’ 0” and Jesus Padilla Ramirez 26’ 8.5’’ in the Shot competition. Luna Sanchez, Padilla Ramirez and Bormann did not record distances in the Discus competition.
In the girls division at the meet, Milbank’s Jacy Dexter took first place in the Pole Vault competition at 10’ 0”. Maggie Kruger came in third at 9’ 6”. Rylee Scoular also put up 8’ 0”, and Katie Kruger hit 7’ 6”, B. Townsend put the Shot 24’ 2”, Jazmynne Ronke participated in the High Jump, but no height was recorded. Avery Schuneman brought home eighth place in the Triple Jump with her total of 32’ 3”. Ella Sandvig recorded 27’ 4.75”. In the Long Jump, Sandvig posted 14’ 7.25”. Siera Wenzl, 14’ 4.25”; S; Lydia Gall,13’ 4.5”;Schuneman, 13’ 2” Zayda Townsend, 12’ 11.5” and Ronke, 11’ 7.75”.
The Bulldog Relay team composed of Dexter, Ashlynn Batchelor, Zayda Townsend, and Wenzl earned third place with their combined total of 4:26.60. Stella Wendland brought home sixth place in the 3200-Meter Run at 13:19.02. Ronke recorded 33.37 in the 200-Meter Dash. She was just behind Untalan at 32.66. Z. Townsend collected seventh place for the Lady Bulldogs in the 800-Meter Run. She posted a time of 2:40.69. The Medley Relay team, made up of Dexter, Schuneman,Wenzl, and Ashlynn Betchelor claimed first place for Milbank with a combined total of 4:35.31. Snaza competed in the 100-Meter and 300-Meter Hurdles. She finished with times of 18.68 and 57.87 respectively. The 400-Meter Relay team of Sandvig, Gall, B.Townsend , and Snaza brought home seventh place at 57.46. In the 1600-Meter Run, A. Batchelor earned second place at 5;35.22 and Bianca Berry took eighth place at 6:01.86. S. Wendland was just behind at 6:23.12. The 800-Meter Relay team earned third place at 1:57.77. Members of the team were Sandvig, Schuneman, Z. Townsend, and R. Scoular. Wenzl (13.45), B. Townsend (14.40), Gall (15.23), and Untalan (15.28) also all ran the 100-Meter Dash.
What’s next? See both teams in action tomorrow at home. Milbank hosts the SDNG Invite on Friday, April 11. Start time is 3:30 p.m. (The meet was rescheduled from Thursday due to the weather.)
Milbank also travels to Canton on Monday April 15.
