A gold ribbon-bracelet fundraiser has begun for five-year-old Kimber Downes. Kimber was recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Kimber and her family will be traveling to Sioux Falls for chemotherapy at the Children’s Hospital once a week for the next 42 weeks.

Kimber is a junior kindergartener at Milbank Elementary School. She enjoys gymnastics and has a new baby brother and an older sister in second grade. Her dad, Justin Downes, is the superintendent of the Milbank schools, and her mother, Brigette, is a special education teacher.

Would you like to help the Downes family? Get your Kimber’s Krusader bracelet!  Bracelets are $3 each and can be purchased at the MHS office, purchased from any MHS HOSA member, or by emailing Johanna.Fischer@K12.SD.US – 100% of the proceeds will go to the Downes family. Need your bracelet mailed? Add $1.

The gold ribbon symbolizes how precious children are and the resiliency of children with cancer. Unlike other awareness ribbons that stand for a specific disease, the gold ribbon represents all forms of cancer that affect children and adolescents.
