Bree Townsend Sets School Record in the Javelin Throw

The Milbank boys track and field team took second place at the Dan Barker Relays in Madison on Friday, May 9. Brookings was first in both the boys and the girls competitions with 165 and 155 points, respectively. The.Milbank boys followed in second with 132.5 points. The Milbank girls chalked up 97.5 points to bring home fifth place. Bree Townsend set a new Milbank school record for the girls in the Javelin with her throw of 80 feet 1 inch.

Boys Highlights: Oliver Korth was first in the Discus. Bryton Blauert was second in the Pole Vault. Lawson Novy was third in the Shot. Emmett Hanson took third in the 110-Meter Hurdles and second in the 300-Meter Hurdles. Graham Lightfield took first in the 300-Meter Hurdles. His time also put him in the No 10 spot on the MHS Honor Roll. Sam Rick was third in the Long Jump.
The 800-Meter Relay Team made up of Garrett Weber, Lance Engebretson, Jaxson Wiese, and Bryan Meyer secured third place for the Bulldogs. Liam Heller was the runner-up in the 1600-Meter Run. Jeter Scoular was second in the 3200-Meter Run. The 400-Meter Relay Team composed of Weber, Harley Zemlicka, Engebretson, and Rick took third place.
Girls Highlights: Bree Townsend set a new Milbank school record in the Javelin with her throw of 80’ 1”. Kaitlyn Brandenburger moved into the No. 9 spot on the MHS Varsity Honor Roll with her throw of 49’ 6”. The Bulldog Relay team made up of Zayda Townsend, Adison Pauli, Ella Koplin, and Siera Wenzl sailed into first place. With their time, the foursome also moved into the No. 2 slot on the MHS Varsity Honor Roll
The 800-Meter Relay team composed of Pauli, Z. Townsend, Violet Johnson, and Wenzl finished as the runners-up. Anna Neugebauer took second place in the Triple Jump, and Johnson was third. Haylen Schneck was third in the High Jump. Rylee Scoular was second in the Pole Vault, and Jacy Dexter came in third. Wenzl took third place in the 200-Meter Dash. Koplin was third in the 400-Meter Dash. Schneck took sixth place at the meet, but her time landed her in the No. 7 spot on the MHS Varsity Honor Roll.


What’s coming up? The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldog who compete in Pole Vault and Javelin head to Webster for an invitational on Wednesday, May 14. On Thursday, May 15, the varsity teams head to the NEC meet in Redfield. The 7th and 8th Grade NEC meet will be held Monday, May 19, in Sisseton. Milbank athletes are also amped for South Dakota’s State Track and Field Championships. All three classes will compete in Sioux Falls from May 29-31.
