Brian Edward Wollschlager was born on April 20, 1963, in Milbank, SD. He was the son of Edward and Kathryn (Kay) Adelman Wollschlager. Brian was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. He grew up on the family farm, helping his parents with field work and livestock chores. When he was six years old, he started bringing hay bales home with the tractor. He attended school in Revillo and graduated from Grant-Deuel High School. Following graduation, Brian continued to farm and purchased the farm in 1986.
Brian was united in marriage with Janelle McKee on December 7, 1991, in Castlewood, SD. They were blessed with four children: Derek, Macy, Grant, and Katie. Brian adored his family and supported them in any way he was able. He gave wheel barrow rides, loved to sled in the pasture, and took them fishing at Round Lake and at the LaBolt Dam. Together with his family, he baked pies, gave a million rides in the green Nissan, and built numerous bird houses out of scrap wood. He would always ask “who can find the first star?”
Brian and Janelle were also blessed with eight grandchildren: Harper, Reed, Dawson, Bentley, Kinsley, Lennox, Remington, and Elliana. Brian was so proud of each one of them and loved to give them tractor rides on “little Johnny”. He enjoyed reading books to them and treating them with chocolate pudding cups or treats that shouldn’t be opened. He also played “farm” and “house” with them.
Brian had a contagious smile and infectious laugh. He was a hardworking, simple man that was extremely patient with others. He instilled the ethic of hard work in his children. He taught them how to fence, drive tractor, and how to drive a stick shift (although two children were not successful!).
Brian was a faithful and active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Revillo, and was active in the community. He was friendly, kind, compassionate, and would drop everything to help someone in need. His memory will be cherished in the hearts of so many.
Brian Wollschlager is survived by his wife, Janelle of LaBolt, SD; four children: Derek (Dakota) Wollschlager of Revillo, SD; Macy (Jared) Berg of Revillo, SD; Grant (Whitney) Wollschlager of Summit, SD; and Katie (Mason) Riley of Milbank, SD; eight grandchildren; eight siblings: Greg (Teresa) Wollschlager of Revillo, SD; Mark (Laurie) Wollschlager of Revillo, SD; Tim (Jenny) Wollschlager of Revillo, SD; Bob (Kristin) Wollschlager of LaBolt, SD; Lori (Kyle) Helm of Cleveland, ND; Karen Loeschke of Revillo, SD; Brenda Sime of Revillo, SD; and Mary (Bob) Drake of Fergus Falls, MN; sisters-in-law: Brenda (Stuart) Almos of Gary, SD; and Dawn (Roy) Wiersma of Castlewood, SD; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
