Scoular Top MHS Runner Against Several Class A Schools

Milbank competed in The Clyde Cotton Invitational held in Huron on Saturday, September 20. Eric Townsend, head coach for the Milbank cross country teams, said, “It was a great opportunity for our varsity teams to see the course where the state meet will be held next month. This meet featured mostly AA schools with a few B and A schools.
Brandon Valley won the girls varsity 5K race. The MIlbank girls brought home 11th place. Individually, Bianca Berry took 28th place. Ella Koplin took 32nd place. Macy Mueller was 50th. Haylen Schneck took 70th place, and Zayda Townsend was 81st.
Aberdeen Central won the boys varsity 5K race. Running for the Milbank boys, Jeter Scoular took 17th. Liam Heller was 43rd, Bennett Graham was 74th, and Beckham Berry came in 87th.
Aberdeen Central won the JV girls 5K race. Milbank’s top finisher was Paola Culhuac Segundo in 14th place. Mackenzie Mueller was 34th. Yanderyn Olivares was 52nd, and Camryn Sovell took 56th.
Pierre T.F. Riggs won the JV boys 5K race. Bulldog Tate Pew took 67th place.
Georgia Morse Middle School from Pierre won the middle school girls 2.9 K race by scooping up the top-four places. Milbank took fifth place. Individually for the Lady Bulldogs, Lennox Spors was 29th. Ainsley Brown took 30th. Nuria Rodriguez Duron took 50th place. Quetzalli Culhuac Segundo came in 61st. Sophia Gruba was 69th. Hannah Pauli was 70th. Kinleigh Brandenberger took 85th place. Abril Ayala Ramirez was 93rd. Fernanda Hernandez Vasquez finished 111th.
“Both teams ran pretty well and competed hard. Efforts and results showed up positively at this meet,” Townsend said. “We currently have a few injuries and illnesses on both teams that hopefully we can get healed up quickly.”
What’s next? Milbank travels to Grand Forks, North Dakota, for the annual Border Battle on Saturday, September 27. Runners from North and South Dakota, Minnesota, and Manitoba are expected at Lincoln Drive Park. Varsity races start at 1 p.m., and JV follows. A community 3K run is set for 5 p.m.
