Just in the nick of time, also known as the week before the holiday break, the Lady Bulldogs secured several scores to prequalify in that division at the state competition to be held in February. The Milbank girls also put up personal best scores like they were hoofprints on the rooftop. They traveled to Britton on December 16 and then hosted their annual invitational on December 20. 

At the Britton-Hecla Invitational, Deuel, Sisseton, and Watertown JV also competed. The Lady Bulldogs increased their team score by two points to finish with 129.95 points. 

Macyn Dunihoo won the Floor Exercise for Milbank with her score of 9.4. The Lady Bulldogs also ended the Floor Exercise with a team-high score of 36.05. Individually, they collected three state-prequalifying scores from Aria Prasnicki , Macyn, and Raina Untalan. Raina also tied her personal best score of 9.05 to earn fifth place in the competition. Aria scored an 8.9 for her personal best. Jada Leigh Wellnitz recorded her personal best at  8.7. Marley Pinkert finished with an 8.65 personal best. Nuria Rodriguez Duron started Milbank off strong on the Floor with her score of 8.45. 

On the bars, Aria led the team by scoring 7.4 to take eighth place. Jada Leigh and Macyn tied at 7.0. Nuria connected her two long-hang kips to flyaway to score a personal best of 6.9. Marley Pinkert completed her low bar kip to score a personal best of 6.1. The team also welcomed back Timbree Spors after her recovery  from an ankle injury. She competed for the first time this season and scored 6.2. 

MHS Head Coach Kelli Wollschlager commented, “A good beam day ended with three state prequalifying scores from Aria, Macyn and  Raina. Raina led the team with a no-fall, personal best and  a prequalifying score of 8.7. She also took third place. Aria also had a no-fall, personal best and prequalifying score of 8.45. She finished in eighth place.”  Macyn was right behind Aria at 8.35 – a  prequalifying score. Marley performed solid jumps to land at 7.65. Tenley Bohn made her varsity beam debut. She finished at 7.4. Nuria presented  her front-walkover cartwheel tumbling connection for the first time to earn a score of 7.25.

On the vault, Raina led the team at 8.55. She took eighth place for Milbank. Nuria tied her personal best at 8.1. Macyn scored 8.0. Jada Leigh put up a score of 7.8. Aria scored 7.7, and Marley scored 7.5.

In the All-Around competition, Marley, Nuria, and  Aria each attained a personal best score. Marley at  29.9,  Nuria at  30.70, and  Aria at 32.45. Macyn scored a 32.75 to take home eighth place.

Assistant coaches for the Lady Bulldogs this season include Michele Benike, Miranda Dunihoo, and Amber Fraasch.

What’s next? The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on January 3. They travel to Sisseton.
