The South Dakota Department of Public Safety (SDDPS) announced the immediate closure of several driver’s license exam stations, including the one in Milbank. The stations in Webster and Madison will also be closed, beginning Tuesday, February 24.

According to the SDDPS, the closures are due to staffing shortages. All changes are until further notice.

Online renewal and duplicate requests for driver’s licenses and ID cards continue to be available. Visit the SDDPS website for more information and instructions.

Need to take a knowledge test or a driving test?  Schedule an appointment

Applicants under the age of 18 will need parental consent and a Driver’s Education Certificate, if applicable. Drivers should note that the examiner can cancel a road/driving test if the examiner considers the weather or road conditions to be unsafe.

The Sisseton office will remain open only on Tuesdays from 8:15 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The office in Clear Lake will also be open on Wednesdays. The Watertown office appears to be unaffected by the closures. Drivers can make an appointment using the online booking system. The office takes appointments from 7:30 a.m until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. A search of their online calendar brought up multiple openings next week. A search of the calendar for Brookings revealed the next open appointment as Wednesday, March 4, at 2:30 p.m. A search of the week of March 9 yielded several openings.
