Four MHS wrestlers spent the weekend grappling with top-notch competition at South Dakota’s 2026 SDSHAA Class A Individual State Wrestling Tournament. The three-day event that concluded on Saturday, February 28, was held at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls. 

Milbank sophomore Lawson Novy finished sixth in the 285-pound division. Freshman Kyra Tostenson took eighth place for the Lady Bulldogs at 190 pounds. Mackenzie Mueller, at 135-pound sophomore, also wrestled hard for Milbank in the girls division.

Hunter Reede, a 215-pound senior, completed a successful high school wrestling career during State. Reede will also be remembered for winning South Dakota’s Middle School Championship at 182 pounds in 2022. 

Sturgis Brown wrestlers were named the 2026 Class A boys champions. Brandon Valley took second, and Watertown came in third. Canton won the Class A title for the girls.

Logan Storley, a 2011 graduate of  Webster High School, was inducted into the South Dakota Wrestling Hall of Fame during the awards events on Saturday.  Storley was a six-time state champion– seventh grade through his senior year at WHS. He compiled a 262-3 record. He was also named the 2011 Junior Hodge Trophy winner as the nation’s top high school wrestler.  Storley currently fights in the Professional Fighters League (PFL).

Individual Results:
285 – Lawson Novy won by fall over Cooper Hodge, Harrisburg, 1:09; lost by technical fall to Rip Siemonsma, Sioux Falls O’Gorman, 5:25 (17-0); won by fall over Charlie Becker, Dell Rapids, 2:19; won by fall over Tyce Uherka, Sturgis, 4:56; lost by major decision to Carlos Rodriguez Jr., Sioux Falls Lincoln, 9-1; lost by fall to Ashten Dorhout, Madison, 0:36. (3-3, Sixth Place).

215 -Hunter Reede lost by fall to Alex Marich, Spearfish, 3:45; lost by disqualification to Ben Cardona, Huron; lost by major decision to Morgan Woods, Rapid City Central, 9-0. (0-3). 

190 – Kyra Tostenson won by decision over Josie Becker, Dell Rapids, 5-2; lost by fall to Jessica Hite, Custer, 3-0; won by major decision over Meleane Mounga, Aberdeen Central, 10-1; lost by technical fall to Hope Kemnitz, Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon, 2:13 (15-0); lost by fall to Josie Becker, Dell Rapids, 4:49. (2-3, Eighth Place) .

135 – Mackenzie Mueller lost by fall to Lexie Hillmer, Pierre TF Riggs, 0:54; lost by decision to Dora Bonen, Mobridge-Pollock, 10-6. (0- 2).
