In celebration of National Ag Week, the agriculture committee of the Milbank Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC) will host its annual Ag Appreciation Day on Wednesday, March 18. The event will be held from 7:30-11 a.m. at the Grant County 4-H Complex at 517 Flynn Dr in Milbank.

The community is invited to a pancake feed from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Pancakes, eggs, sausage, fruit, juice, and coffee will be featured. Olivia Foell, 2026 Miss Milbank, will be there to greet guests, and Milbank FFA officers will serve the meal. Free-will donations will be collected. A raffle will be conducted to help support the event.

Local agribusinesses and organizations will host vendor booths. The new South Dakota State University precision agriculture trailer will be on site offering hands-on demonstrations, including a drone, sensors, a rainfall simulator, and planters with variable rate applicators.

Two speakers will present on ag-related topics. At 9:15 a.m., Ali Mirzakhani Nafchi, an assistant professor and SDSU Extension precision agriculture specialist, will talk on precision crop agriculture. At 10:15 a.m., Laura Edwards, SDSU Extension State Climatologist, will speak about weather and climate trends in our region.

“Agriculture is at the heart of our community,” said Jamie Henderson, executive director of MACC. “Ag Appreciation Day is our way of bringing the community together during National Ag Week to recognize the farmers, producers, and ag businesses whose dedication keeps our local economy strong and helps feed communities across the country.”

Event proceeds help support the MACC Agriculture Scholarships. Each year, up to two $1,000 scholarships are awarded to Milbank High School seniors who plan to pursue agriculture-related fields of study.

As part of the Ag Appreciation Day, Milbank FFA students will also hold a Drive Your Tractor to School Day.
