Mary Ellen Just

Mary Ellen Just, age 91, of West Fargo, ND, who died March 27, 2017, at her home.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 8:00 a.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Funeral. Fr. Joseph Pfeiffer will officiate.
Burial will be in the St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Mary Ellen was born on January 12, 1926, in Milbank, SD. She was the daughter of John and Joan (Stapleton) Heffernan. She grew up in Marvin, SD and primarily lived in South Dakota and Minnesota. Mary Ellen graduated from Milbank High School in 1943. She married John P. Just on June 25, 1952, at Immaculate Conception Church in Watertown, SD. From this marriage she had four children: Joan, John, Patrick, and Bernard.

After high school Mary Ellen moved to Brookings, SD where she attended SDSU with hopes of attaining a degree in journalism. She did graduate with a degree in Education and started teaching in Summit, SD. She also taught in Yankton, SD, Bricelyn, MN, and in Heron Lake, MN from 1965-1992. She continued to live in Heron Lake until 2010 when she moved to West Fargo where she has since resided.

Mary Ellen was a self-taught computer user. She loved spending time with her two Havanese dogs “Abbey” and Nellie”. She enjoyed reading daily newspapers on the internet.

She was a devout Catholic who prayed daily. She also enjoyed watching and feeding the birds. “Especially the wrens and turtle doves!”

Cherishing Mary Ellen’s memory are her daughter, Joan Just of West Fargo, ND; her sons: John (Val) Just of Des Moines, IA; Patrick Just of Fargo, ND; and Bernard Just of West Fargo, ND; her brother, Bernard Heffernan of Rockford, IL; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Joan; her husband, John; sister, Monica Gobel; and brother, John Heffernan.
