The Milbank Firechiefs axed the Castlewood Monarchs 16-2 on Wednesday, June 9, in Castlewood. The Firechiefs’ bats sparked an explosion of offense to put up seven runs just in the first inning. The rush was led by Jacob Jackson, Mitch Quade, Bryan Appl, Justin Larson, and Jonny Ash. They all recorded singles. Brady Krause also doubled to bring in two runs.
The bats cooled down briefly and Milbank didn’t get fired up again until the top of the fourth when Larson singled to right field and Chase Habben scored him on a single to left.

Milbank added three more to the scoreboard in the top of the sixth. Habben, Dom Boerger, and Ash all drew walks. Quade scored two of the three with a single to left field and Ash later scored on a passed ball. The Firechiefs weren’t done, though. They added five more runs to make it 16-2 in the top of the seventh led by a three-run homerun from Ash.

Larson and Boerger each recorded three hits in Milbank’s victory. Jackson, Ash, Quade, and Appl added two apiece. Ash and Quade each knocked in three runs.
Taylor Boerger earned the win on the bump. He pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowed two runs, and struck out seven batters.
