Tyra Berry Scores 18 Points Against Hamlin

On Tuesday, February 4, the Lady Bulldogs hosted the Lady Chargers of Hamlin, who are ranked No. 4 in most Class A polls, including the SD Prep Media Poll. Hamlin took the win at 62-54, but it was still anybody’s game when the fourth quarter started.

Hamlin had plowed ahead in the first quarter by 16 points, but Milbank gained back ground by the end of the third to narrow the gap to three at 49-46. Hamlin picked up 13 points to Milbank’s eight in the final quarter to take back control and earn the win.

Tyra Berry led the Lady Dawgs with 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Siera Wenzl and Isabella Anderson each scored 12. Wenzl’s all came from 3-point shots. Claire Snaza, Avery Schuneman, and Belle Pauli made four points apiece. Pauli also pulled down nine rebounds. Anderson was next with seven.

Wenzl and Riley Scoular each secured two boards. Snaza snared one rebound and added an assist. Scoular also recorded three assists. Pauli had two assists and a steal. Berry, Anderson, Wenzl, Josie Riveland, and Schuneman each pulled off a steal.

For the Lady Chargers, 5’ 8” senior guard Addie Steffensen poured in 26 points. Junior Addison Neuendorf and senior Jo Steffensen each added 11. Sophomore Issie Steffensen scored eight. Freshman Addelyn Jensen made four and eighth-grader Paxton Neuendorf made two free throws.

Considering Hamlin is ranked as one of the top-five teams in the state, the Lady Bulldogs held their own on paper. Milbank was perfect at the line in the second half and finished at 75 percent, ahead of Hamlin’s 68 percent. Milbank shot better from behind the arc. They charted 40 percent to Hamlin’s 32 percent. Overall, they finished neck-and- neck. Milbank locked in 46.3 percent shooting, and Hamlin, 46.7.

What’s next? Milbank head to Aberdeen to take on Roncalli on Thursday, February 6. They go to Madison on Saturday, February 8, for the annual Dak/XII NEC Girls Clash. The Lady Bulldogs take on Canton. Tip-off is at 5 p.m.
