The Milbank Area varsity gymnasts took fourth place at the Linda Collignon Invitational in Madison on January 18. Nine other teams competed: Madison, Wall-Kadoka Area-Philip, Sisseton, Britton-Hecla, Kimball-White Lake, Chamberlain, Parkston-Ethan-Hanson-Mt. Vernon, Deuel, and Wagner-Bon Homme. The invitational goes back about 30 years, but 10 years ago it was named after Linda Collignon, a former longtime Madison coach from the 1990s and 2000s.
“This meet is always challenging due to the longer wait time between events, but the team pulled through and stuck with their performances to score a season-high 130.425 to take fourth place,” commented Kelly Wollschlager head coach for the Lady Bulldogs of Milbank.
The team started on the Floor with clean routines showing off their tumbling. Macyn Dunnihoo scored 9.075 to finish in second place. Hannah Brown was right behind her at 8.95 to secure fifth place. Raina Untalan scored 8.525; Jada Leigh Wellnitz, 7.7; and Gemma Street, 7.4.
The Lady Bulldogs were also impressive in the Vault competition. Hannah scored 9.0 to tie for second place. Macyn received an 8.65. Jada Leigh performed a personal best to receive an 8.375, Mady Sletten rang up an 8.35, and Raina scored 8.1.
The team reached their highest Bar total this season at 29.8. Hannah caught her release to gain a score of 7.7. Macyn cleaned up her free-hip on the low bar to score a 7.55. Jada Leigh earned a 7.325. “Aria (Prasnicki) continues to clean up her execution,” Wollschlager said. She scored 7.225. Wollschlager also noted, “Mady connected her long hang kips for a 5.5.”
The team also earned their highest aggregate score on the Beam this season with a total of 32.0. “Raina had a nice clean routine to score a personal best 8.325,” Wollschlager said. Hannah scored 7.975. Gemma and Macyn tied at 7.85. Jada Leigh started MIlbank out by posting a score of 5.175.
In the All-Around competition, Hannah built up a total of 33.625 points. Macyn accrued 33.125 – her highest this season. Jada Leigh collected 28.575.
What’s next? The varsity gymnastics team takes a break until January 28 when they travel to Morris for a dual.
