Belle Pauli Double-Doubles in Hoops Win 

Belle Pauli posted a double-double in Milbank’s 50-47 conference hoops victory over Sisseton at home on Tuesday, February 11. Pauli put up 13 points and 12 rebounds. Isabella Anderson scored 14 points and three assists. She pulled down eight rebounds and jacked a steal. Tyra Berry dropped in 13 points and grabbed two rebounds.  

This deep in the season, details can make or break a game, and Milbank used their opportunities to churn out a win. They were hot at the line and knocked down 10 of 11 attempts in the second half for over 90 percent efficiency. They hit 15 of 19 overall.  Sisseton collected only eight of 20 free throws for 40 percent.

Siera Wenzl added six points and an assist and one rebound to bolster Milbank’s scoring and defensive front.  Claire Snaza chipped in four points and got six rebounds and a steal. Pauli also made an assist and two steals. Joise Riveland also recorded a board.

Milbank’s early lead proved to be valuable as the Lady Bulldogs were faced with the big job of fending off Sisseton’s Krista Langager, a 6’ 1’ senior center. Langager put up a double-double for the Lady Redmen with a game-high 20 points, coupled with 11 rebounds. She also had two assists and the only block in the game. Ruby Rice made 10 points and three rebounds. Tara Nelson followed with seven points. Sisseton offered an impressive performance, but the Lady Bulldogs still handed them the loss.

Milbank made 30 percent of their shots from the floor. They hit 27 percent from behind the arc. Sisseton made 35 percent from the floor and downed 19 percent from long range.

During the game, all of Milbank’s DARE graduates joined in singing the National Anthem. They were directed by MHS Choir Director Miriam Schwenn.
