Betty Reyelts

Betty Reyelts, 92, of Wilmot, SD, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Wilmot Care Center in Wilmot. 

Private services will be held. 

Betty Verneal Reyelts was born on January 3, 1932, to Henry and Frieda (Minder) Reil in Wilmot, SD. She was raised on her family’s farm north of Corona, SD, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Betty attended Garfield #1 country school and graduated from Wilmot High School in 1950.

After high school, she held several jobs before beginning her long career at the Wilmot State Bank, where she worked for over 40 years until her retirement. In November 1970, she married Peter Reyelts at the St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Wilmot.

Betty had a passion for baking, enjoyed traveling with Peter in their younger years, and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins. She also cherished her daily dinners at the café in Wilmot. A devoted member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, she later joined the Peace Lutheran Church in Milbank after her home congregation closed.

Betty is survived by her son, Randy (Tracy) Reil of Corona, SD; her brother, Larry (Judy) Reil of Wilmot, SD; three granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, with another on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Henry and Frieda; her husband, Peter; and her brothers: Loren (Mary Lou) Reil and Victor Reil.
