The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Redfield on Tuesday, April 15, to take on the Lady Pheasants in varsity fastpitch softball. Milbank was overwhelmed by Redfield’s high-powered offense and solid pitching early in the game. The Lady Bulldogs did not get a chance to recover before Redfield bagged a 16-1 victory.
The Lady Pheasants wasted no time putting runs up on the board. They scored four in the first inning and kept rolling with two more in the second. They added four in the third and six in the fourth to end the game early due to the mercy rule. Redfield finished with 13 hits and 10 RBIs. Milbank was limited to one run on four hits.
Milbank’s lone run came in the top of the fourth. First baseman Kennedi Sayler doubled and eventually scored with help by singles from Allie Meyer and Macy Mueller. Mueller led Milbank’s offense. She went 2-for-2 and drove in the Lady Dawgs’ only run. Meyer and Sayler put up one hit apiece.
Ashlynn Lamp was the starting pitcher for Milbank. She went 3.2 innings, allowing 16 runs (14 earned) on 13 hits, walked six, and struck out five.
Redfield’s C. Jungwirth did the most damage at the plate. She went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored, including three doubles. Hermann also went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a triple. Hardie added two hits, two RBIs, and two stolen bases. As a team, Redfield swiped 11 bases and stranded just four runners.
Evans started the game and earned the win for Redfield. She struck out one and allowed four hits and one earned run. Evans avoided walking a batter over four innings with 32 pitches.
Milbank committed four errors. Redfield made two.
With the loss, Milbank falls to 1-2 for the season, but there is still a lot of softball yet to be played.
What’s next? The Lady Bulldogs face Ortonville on Friday, April 25.
