The Milbank Middle School Band, under the direction of Susan Karels, will perform in the annual Lake Region Marching Band Festival in Groton on Friday, October 10.  Groton Area High School and Groton Middle School will host fifteen schools from across the region. 

The parade of marching bands begins at 10 a.m .in downtown Groton. Everyone is welcome to watch the parade and to attend the awards ceremony that follows at the school.

Bands performing: Holgate-Simmons Middle School, Milbank Middle School, Britton-Hecla, Castlewood, Frederick Area, Great Plains Lutheran, Northwestern, Redfield, T.F. Riggs – Pierre, Watertown, Aberdeen Roncalli, Hoven, Ipswich, Langford Area, Leola, and Groton Area.

An esteemed  panel of judges that includes Dr. Audrey Miller, Dr. Terry Beckler, and Mr. John Patzlaff.will evaluate each band’s performance. Awards will be given to the top two bands in each of the high school and middle school divisions, and also to the top three bands in the combined division. Additional awards include Best Color Guard, Best Winds, Best Drum Major, and Best Percussion. A Grand Champion Award will also be presented to the band with the highest score overall.

TheLake Region Marching Band Festival originated in Milbank and  then moved to Waubay for 11 years. Since 2013, Groton has continued to host the event.

The festival will be livestreamed at GDILIVE.COM.  It can also be heard during the event on 89.3 FM.
