Allen Thompson, age 72, of Stockholm, SD, passed away on December 15, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Elim Evangelical Mission Church in Stockholm. Rev. Jim Robertson will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
Allen Kennedy Thompson was born on July 31, 1953, at St. Bernard’s Hospital in Milbank, SD. He was the son of John and Theodora (Carlsen) Thompson. He was baptized and confirmed at Elim Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stockholm. He graduated from South Shore High School. While attending high school, Al worked for the Stockholm Elevator.
Al was united in marriage with Myra Heuer on September 17, 1977, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in South Shore. They were blessed with 48 years of marriage and four children: Rachel, Raquel, Allen, and Charli.
When he was 18-years-old, he worked as a river guide on the Salmon River in Salmon, ID. He later worked in Baton Rouge, LA, hooking up barges on the Mississippi River. He returned to South Dakota and started his career with Bracht Transportation, working as a truck driver. He bought his first truck in the early 1980’s and drove for Hedge and Herberg. He later was self-employed and drove truck for 40 plus years. He mainly hauled honey bees and granite. Al also farmed for many years. He raised grain, cattle, hogs, and milked cows.
Al could fix just about anything and enjoyed working in his shop. He enjoyed gardening, his cats, and his son’s beloved hound dogs. He loved visiting with people and especially loved his grandchildren. He had a tender heart. Family traditions and holidays were important to Al. He was very knowledgeable and interested in history and loved learning the history of Stockholm.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Myra of Stockholm, SD; his four children: Rachel (Matthew) O’Bray of Herington, KS; Raquel Trinciante of Thief River Falls, MN; Allen (Daphne) Thompson of Watertown, SD; and Charli Thompson (Jacob Anspach) of Bird Island, MN; 17 grandchildren: Preston, Parker, Emma, Presley, Chase, Grayson, Samuel, Christofer, Alex, Sofia, Caden, Brayden, Zayden, Landyn, and Aspyn; two step-granddaughters: Carly and Maggie; siblings: Betty (Tom) Campbell, Alex (Jane) Thompson, Catherine (Dennis) Martenson, Charles (Christy) Thompson, James (Peggy) Thompson, Dorothy Diaz-Thompson, and David (Nadine) Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Theodora Thompson; his parents-in-law: Erwin and Rose Heuer; brother, John Thompson; sister, Patty Fredlund; grandson, Cooper O’Bray; niece, Theresa Schmig; and brothers-in-law: Bill Diaz, and Wilfred Fredlund.
