The Bulldogs tangled with the Tigers of Groton at Groton on Saturday, January 24. The game was rescheduled from Thursday, January 22, due to inclement weather.
“Groton is one of the most talented teams in all of Class A in South Dakota. They pressure you the entire length of the floor, and try to speed you up – that is their recipe,” said Logan Diede, head coach for Milbank. “We handled their pressure well at times, but got sped up too many times in the end. That said, I’m proud of how our guys competed on both ends of the floor.”
Although the Bulldogs took the loss at 57-36, there was still a lot of good news. Sam Rick scored a game-high 13 points for Milbank. Jack Howard pulled down nine rebounds. The Bulldogs also did well at the charity stripe. They made four of six for 67 percent. But the Tigers were hard to beat. Groton was perfect from the line at nine of nine. Turnovers also caused the Bulldogs some trouble. They finished with 18, and the Tigers committed just seven. The Bulldogs, however, won the battle on the boards. They hauled down 28 to Groton’s 25.
”These types of games make you better, and will allow us to be better the next time we see that style again!” Diede noted. “Proud of our effort!”
Adding to Milbank’s totals, Jeter Scoular scored five points and added three rebounds. Howard and Layten Osowski each put up four points. Osowski added five boards. Lincoln Holscher and Ryan Keeton each made three points. Keeton made three assists. Emmett Snaza contributed two points and a rebound. Also on the rebound, Holscher got three; Rick, two; and Keeton, Braylen Bowsher, Aiden Kelly and Liam Street each pulled down one. The Bulldogs hit 31 percent of their shots from the floor. They made 26 percent from beyond the arc.
