Lady Bulldogs Softball Team Takes a Hit at Deuel

The Lady Bulldogs softball team went on the road to Deuel on Monday, April 13. Milbank fell 15-0 in four-innings. Deuel jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first inning. In the second frame Deuel tacked on six more runs to overwhelm Milbank at 13-0. Deuel’s Rylynn Streich doubled. Elle Holden tripled. Kennedy Harmon, Gracelynn Nielsen, and Eden Schiernbeck each singled. Laney Toben also drew a walk to keep the Cardinals flying around the bases. At the same time, Milbank’s defense felt the pressure, and Deuel cashed in on the extra chances.

In the third, Milbank recovered from their rough start and turned the tables to hassle Deuel, who had to settle for a goose egg – their only scoreless inning of the day.

Milbank’s offense also got fired up. Paisley  Ericsson singled and stole a base. Lauren  Lester and Payton Westfield singled. Ashlynn Lamp, Allie Meyer, and Hayden  Montag each managed a walk, but the Bulldogs could not string enough action together to push a run across the plate. Milbank finished with three hits and three walks. They left six runners stranded.

Deuel stopped the game short by adding two more runs in the fourth to invoke the mercy rule. The Cardinals finished with 10 hits. Streich went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two doubles, Holden was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a triple, Nielsen finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Toben drove in four runs, including a home run. Harmon also reached base three times with a hit and two walks.

Milbank struck out 11 times against Deuel’s pitcher Aubrey Lanners. Lanners threw all four innings.  For the Bulldogs, Lamp took the loss on the mound.  She worked 3.1 innings and struck out four. Of Deuel’s 15 runs, seven were earned.  Milbank committed 10 errors. Deuel had none.
